Your textbook contains a figure which nicely illustrates the apparent existence of a north and south magnetic monopole in a bar magnet, when the field is probed in the region outside the magnet. This "illusion" is based on a smooth extrapolation of the B field into the material of the magnet, but such an extrapolation is not valid.
