E895 Meeting Minutes                 30 September, 1997

News & Status Report:

GR  -   I am reinstating our own group meetings to discuss local affairs
        and group business. We can arrange phone in when necessary.
    -   Heng has been selected to give an oral presentation at QM'97.
        congratulations.
    -   I had a meeting with PDSF, and appointed Sergei as being
        officially in charge of the pentium farm. We are looking for
        some support from PDSF also.
    -   This thursday afternoon 2pm we will have practice talks.

SP  -   Pentium boxes have been set up. They are on their own subnet.
        one user account is available.
    -   Mike Lisa got the executable which was compiled at BNL.

All -   We should get our own compiler and avoid the BNL loop.

NS  -   DST structure and content has been defined.
    -   I will come up with packing version 3 to pack trks.rb and
        trks.x variable.
    -   working on the v0 code, found that v0 module now works with
        BTF. The problem that BTF doesn't have conventional ia and iz
        assignment has been fixed. We still need to understand the
        cuts that Marvin applied in his v0 module.

DB  -   showed lambda result with 1d+btf with/without distortion, the
        case with distortion correction is better.
    -   new switch btf_sw.idstc has been put into BTF to handle distortion.
    -   Some aspects of the slow simulator are working at LBL. One particle
        test with slow simulator shows that 2d is better than 1d.

All -   To better understand the distortion effect, Zb and frac_seen
        are good variables to look at.

HL  -   copying tapes for OSU (finished 10 DLTs) and SUNY (finished 25
        8mm exabyte). During the copying process, 2 DLT tapes are
        unreadable. This is worrying because even DLT have limited life time.
