E895 Meeting Minutes 28 January, 1997 Attending: Gulshan Rai, Nathan Stone, Dieter Best, Heng Liu, Jim Draper, Bill Caskey, Dan Cebra ------------------------------------------------------------------------ News & Status Report: GR - Hans Georg is on travel this week. Before he left, he asked me to take care of EOS business first, so any specific EOS news ? DC - Jerry Chance gave me a first draft of his thesis last week. DB - FDDI connection on PDSF sun machines are ready. - One DLT drive has been mounted on PDSF. So far we have problem to access the DLT stacker. GR - Equipment committee may approve us a DLT stacker. So before we buy it, it is good to know if we can operate them first. I'll call TTI to look into it. DB - There will be a PDSF user meeting on Feb. 19 to coordinate for the computer needs. Each group has 20-30 minutes presentation time. We should prepare for it. GR - Regarding the training room machines, our suggestion to aquire them was rejected. DB - We can have 35 HPs which are dedicated to us and mounted to PDSF. - Tracker program (from FOPI) interfaced with TAS, plus primary vertex finder has been finished. The old vertex finder has a cut on the tracks based on their distance away from the target, this may not be necessarily right since the target position is unknown. - We should have some independent evaluation of my tracker. I think Heng will be the best person. GR - We can use slow simulator to introduce the fake split track and see how well the tracker does. - Spiros has some idea about the secondary track finding, you may want to talk to him. - Bob Hackenburg faxed me the survey result. He said it was done with field on and off, but I only found one set of parameters. DC - Juan Romero wants the survey info about Heubline and TPC coordinate system and how the TPC fiducial marks are related to TPC coordinate system. NS - CVS repository is installed. Everyone can access the repository from their home directory. I'm working on the script that can automate the procedure and let people do the minimum. HL - The sequence in filtering the events is: you have to decode bdf file first, then extract trigger pattern, then encode and put back to output stream. I'm still modifying the TAS code right now. GR - You can look to see if TAS outputs some other binary formats which pad_monitor can read in. GR - The issue of AFS came up in the last meeting. How does Davis feel about it ? DC - I have no idea. I have to talk this over with Lynn since he has experience with AFS. AFS is particularly useful if multiple people want to modify the code. - TAS3 is being setup at Davis right now. JD - showed the laser time buckets vs. the height of corresponding fiducial marks, and he did a linear fit to extract the slope parameter which is consistent with the canary reading. From the fit, one can extract the roof position at about 820.8mm. - I have to check TAS3 and pad_monitor to see if they agrees. BC - We had some problem compiling TAS3 on HP at Davis. Some C structure- like lines just won't compile. GR - Beam enery problem is being investigated by Ajit. Prepared by Heng Liu
