E895 Meeting Minutes 21 January, 1997 Attending: Gulshan Rai, Nathan Stone, Mark Gilkes, Dieter Best, Heng Liu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ News & Status Report: GR - Regular E895 meeting will be held at 1:30pm each Tuesday in the Director's office. - Mike Lisa sent me a mail about the strange problem he encountered with the TAS3 code, that is, when he turned on the tracker it zeroed the HITS table. DB - I have seen the same problem before. Using the old hitfinder from TAS2 can make the problem go away. MG - Now TAS3 code has been distributed to several institutions. For the problems with individual code, please consult with Dieter. - I'm still working on TAS_GEN routine. Certainly STAR project will take away some time from me, but I'll make sure the TAS_GEN code will be ready by the end of this month. NS - Doug has helped to setup the CVS repository in my home directory, I'll use it as a test bench, later this week I'll setup CVS for TAS3 in e895 directory on sseos. - Should we consider to put TAS3 code on an AFS server, for example, on BNL's RHIC computer ? GR - The disadvantage is that we have to maintain the code remotely, unless we can find a local AFS server. We will leave the decision to the whole collaboration, and for the time being, we can still setup TAS3 repository on sseos. (Interruption, we got "kicked" out by NA49 group since we haven't reserved the room, we moved to NS & DB's office). Continue................... DB - Now TAS3 can make DST production without crash. I'm running several jobs on 6 & 8 GeV data. - Our 9GB disk is mounted on rncus2 (SUN ultra) machine. - PDSF has installed a DLT stacker which belongs to NA49. but we can use it since it is idle right now. Doug is helping to mount EOS 8mm tape stackers on PDSF too. - Mike sent me email about the hits being displayed outside the TPC volume, he said, when he turned off the distortion table switch, the hits are inside the TPC, and tracker seems to find more tracks too. GR - We have to check which version of the distortion table Mike is using, there is the one for 3/4 field and one for the full field. DB - I have the tracker program for FOPI, I can work on to incorporate it to TAS and see if it improves the tracking efficiency. GR - How different the FOPI tracker is compared with EOS's one? DB - They are basically the same except the detector geometries are different. HL - The temporary email list has been setup, one is e895_all@sseos.lbl.gov, the other is e895_soft@sseos.lbl.gov, the name is self explanatory. - I have modified the old EOS pass1 scripts for E895, I'll do some exercise with the scripts later of this week to make sure it does work for us. - Jim Draper came to here last Friday to work on the laser calibration, then he wanted to have laser events in a single file so that he can view the events in pad_monitor easily. Currently TAS doesn't have the ability to write out bdf format. I'm modifing the TAS code in order for it to work. MG - Mike is planning to move nsdssi to Ohio State. but e910's database and informix are on this machine. There are going to be some down time for e910 people. But once Mike has finished setting up the nsdssi, we should let e910 people know about the new IP address in order for them to access the database. GR - The LBL annual report is due this coming Friday. We should prepare one for E895 collaboration. I have prepared one for E895 already. DB - I will prepare an abstract for the April strangeness meeting in Greek. Prepared by Heng Liu
